About the Training

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1) Understand generational differences when talking about gender with a range of families;

2) Identify supportive resources to facilitate family conversations about gender;

3) Recognize how caregiver's own values, intrinsic biases, and experiences might impact the way they approach conversations about gender with youth and their families.

Time will also be provided for Q&A with the presenter.

 

Format - Virtual:

Trainees will receive a Zoom link to join the training

CEUs: 

CEUs will be provided for the MN Boards of Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, & Behavioral Health and Therapy (pending final approval).

 

About the Trainer

 

Alex Iantaffi, PhD, MS, SEP, CST, LMFT is a family therapist, WPATH certified gender specialist, certified sex therapist, Somatic Experiencing practitioner, clinical supervisor, writer and independent scholar. They hold adjunct faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and at Antioch University, while also running their own clinic, Edges Wellness Center LLC, which centers both providers and clients who have been historically marginalized and underserved. Alex is currently the Chair of the Trans and Queer interest network of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and President Elect of the Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT). They were the recipient of the 2019 MAMFT Distinguished Service Award. Alex was the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Sexual and Relationship Therapy for eleven years and has researched, presented and published extensively on gender, disability, sexuality, relationships, and HIV.  Alex is passionate about education, healing justice and community-based and engaged scholarship. They are a trans masculine, nonbinary, bi queer, disabled, Italian immigrant who has been living on Dakota and Anishinaabe territories, currently known as Minneapolis, MN (US) since 2008. Alex is the author of "Gender Trauma: healing cultural, social, and historical gendered trauma" and co-author of the books "How to Understand Your Gender: a practical guide for exploring who you are",  “Life Isn’t Binary”, and “Hell Yeah Self-Care: a Trauma-Informed Workbook” with Meg-John Barker (Jessica Kingsley Publishers). Cancellation policy:

Due to limited seating, cancellations or changes must be made at least 3 business days before a scheduled event. Cancellations made 7 business days or more in advance of an event will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations or changes made within 3-6 business days of an event will incur a $50 fee. We will do our best to accommodate placement in a training on a different date. Refunds cannot be issued within 3 business days of a training, however you may send someone in your place for the entire training (no daily substitutions or transfers).
