*pre-approved by the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy, MN Board of Social Work, MN Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, and MN Board of Psychology

The Foundations in Development course provides an overview of child development from birth through adolescence. Child development refers to the biological, psychological, social, and emotional changes that occur in human beings between birth and the end of adolescence. Babies begin in complete dependence on their caregivers and progress toward increasing independence.  Development is continuous and follows a predictable sequence yet the context of the child’s environment, caregiving system, and biological makeup create a unique course for every individual. Individual differences are the child’s adaptation to their caregivers as the child becomes an active participate in constructing his or her experience.
