Who should attend: Early Childhood Mental Health Professionals and Clinical Trainees who have experience with diagnostic procedures using DSM-5 or ICD-10 with a strong background in child development.

Required seminar materials: All participants must purchase a copy of Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health & Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood, DC:0-5 (2016) ZERO TO THREE Press. ISBN:9781938558573 – this can be purchased from Zero to Three or Amazon. Also, download all handouts from the web prior to attending the training.

Learning goals/ objectives: Participants will:

  1.       Understand the basics of early childhood development.
  2.       Understand the importance of using a multigenerational approach when assessing young children.
  3.       Understand the advantages and disadvantages of making diagnoses of infants and young children.
  4.       Become familiar with the five axis- diagnostic system for infants and toddlers.
  5.       Become familiar with the similarities and the differences between the current diagnostic system (DSM-5) and the new diagnostic framework (DC:0-5™)
  6.       Learn the relationship disorder axis and be able to apply it to clinical practice.
  7.       Understand the MN Medicaid Rules in Minnesota authorizing the use of the DC:0-5™ for diagnosing young children.
  8.       Be able to understand the stressors of young children from a developmental perspective.
