As professionals who provide mental health services, we witness how minimization, microaggressions, racism, and oppression affect many of the families and children we serve. We are diverse with different life experiences, identities, cultures, and perspectives. The purpose of this training is to support you and your organization in working toward an environment that is open, aware, respectful, and dedicated to diversity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness. We recognize that positive intent is insufficient; we must also be mindful of the impact our words and behaviors have on others.

Course Objectives

  • Define important terms related to diversity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness.
  • Understand the meaning and importance of providing culturally responsive services.
  • Learn about the history of diversity efforts at Washburn as well as the current direction these efforts are headed.
  • Become familiar with “Courageous Conversations.”
