About the Summer Series

Engaging with a client's family can be more complicated than what you learned in grad school. The Training Institute at Washburn Center invites you to the first annual Summer Series for clinicians! This 4-part training series will highlight skills, tools and insights to effectively engage with the diversity of families in our community. 

Participants may register for individual sessions, or for the full training series at a discounted price!

About Dr. Allen

Dr. Allen

William D. Allen, Ph.D. is a licensed marriage and family therapist and owner of Healing Bonds, a private practice located in Minneapolis, MN. In addition to psychotherapeutic services to individuals, couples and families, Dr. Allen provides clinical consultation to social service agencies, and to state and local government on a range of subjects related to family mental health and well-being. He is Adjunct Professor in the graduate Counseling Psychology program at the University of St. Thomas, the Family Social Science Department of the University of Minnesota, and his research interests include the intersection of family process and ethnicity, and the important roles males play in family life across the lifespan.

 

About this Session

Participants of this session will:

  1. Gain a basic understanding of cultural competence as an organizing theory of clinical treatment.
  2. Develop awareness of individual barriers to effective cross-cultural work.
  3. Increase ability to use cultural diversity as a resource in clinical practice.
